A framed original 18" x 36" acrylic on canvas (19 3/4" x 37 3/4" total including the frame) Parks Duffey painting celebrating Barack Obama's Election with Fireworks in Washington, DC over the White House on November 4, 2008. The painting is a custom black with gold inner-edge frame. I believe this painting has at least 100 different shades of color - all very vivid - in the fireworks over the White House. The colors are outstanding with the ultra-white of the White House at night with the East and West Wings shaded by shrubbery and the fountain a-glow with white. The idea that the Republican (as of the date of Election) and the Democratic District of Columbia are represented in a painting that celebrates the peaceful transition of government is wonderful. This is a gorgeous painting done on stretched canvas. Extremely vivid and fresh colors. One of his early 1990s commissions was from the White House Historical Association and he painted the White House or Capitol a handful of times. Mr. Duffey has a unique style of Southern Impressionism, and his most well-known paintings are of colleges and Virginia landmarks, mostly of Central Virginia (usually Richmond and Petersburg) that form collages of large numbers of different colors to bring together a feast for the eyes. He has done other styles of artwork including rural southern scenes, colorful Caribbean paintings and book illustrations, he is most well-known for the college and landmark collages.
