  • 4" high including articulating belt loop
  • Made of leather, brass/bronze, copper and iron(?)
  • Proud set turquoise and red coral beads (may be glass)
  • Center stone is chipped and one of the coral red stones is sheared off
  • Front flap has hook closure
  • Back of pouch is adorned with a small brass/bronze coin with rabbit-like figures
  • No flint iron included
  • Original tinder material remains in pouch
  • Found at a Santa Fe, New Mexico estate
  • "The chuckmuck is constructed from a stiff leather purse with a thick curved steel striker attached. The sides and flap of the purse are either sewn or fixed by ornamental plates or small plaques. Inside are kept a piece of flint and a little tinder (pulped woody material such as plant roots). On the top fold a thin metal plate with 1-3 hooks allows the pouch to be hung from the belt."
