This is a rare and magnificent thick booklet, well - illustrated with detailed texts, photographs and maps, that shows aircraft used by all Latin American air forces in the early 1980’s.

This book is the seventh in the Military Air Arms Series, which aim to present a historical background and an extensive survey of current and more recent organisation and equipment of the various arms, supported by a wide - ranging photographic coverage, base maps, unit insignia, etc... As always, data of a technical nature such as aircraft performance, dimensions and armament is deliberately kept to a minimum since this way easily be found in other reference books such as the ’ Janes ’ and ’ Observers ’ series.
Latin America is particularly important because of its largely unexplored natural resources as well as its enormous strategic significance. Turning now to the content of this book in more detail, we must first acknowledge that a few of the countries included are not strictly Latin American - Barbados, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Surinam and Trinidad and Tobago - but they are incorporated since they fall in the same general geographical area.

John M. Andrade is an author specialised in military aviation. He has written a couple of books such as Spanish and Portuguese military aviation ( 1977 ), U.S. Military Aircraft Designations and Serials since 1909 ( 1979 ) and World Police & Paramilitary Forces ( 1986 ).
