Antique 9ct Gold Natural Australian Boulder Opal Ring Size O 1/2 - 1920s.

Solid 9ct yellow gold.

Hallmarked “9ct”

The ring is in very good condition with the exception of some tarnish to the gold and a few finer scratches here and there.

The ring style is a solitaire ring.

The ring is Australian made, handmade and it dates to the early to mid 1920s.

The main stone is a natural Australian Boulder opal that displays magnificent green and purple colours.

The Boulder opal has been tested and it was confirmed to be natural and with no colour enhancements.

I believe the opal is from Queensland, although I could be wrong about that.

There are no chips or scratches on the Boulder opal and it is not loose in its setting.

The Boulder opal has an estimated carat weight of 3.40cts.

The gold purity of this ring has been tested and it was confirmed to be solid 9ct yellow gold (37.5% purity)

The ring has been previously resized. The solder joints are professional and will most likely stand up to normal wear.

The ring doesn’t have any other visible modifications.

No visible repairs.

The Boulder opal is visibly cut by hand as it is slightly taller and thicker on one side. Still beautifully cut given the tools a stone cutter would have used back in the 1920s.

The opal is a bit dull under indoor lighting, it displays more colour under natural sunlight.

The ring has some dark tarnish on it which I cannot polish off with normal jewellery cleaner.

I suspect this ring has spent some time underwater at a beach or some other location and was probably dug up by a metal detector.

I can’t confirm this as I’m not 100% sure of its history but based on its physical condition and age, this is a possibility.

Personally, I don’t find this doesn’t take much away from the ring given its antiquity, just know that the ring may have some dark spots even after constant wear.

The ring is still in an amazing condition and will easily stand up to normal wear.

The ring has an inside diameter of 17.7mm

An Australian size O 1/2

Ring band width is 1.8mm

Ring band thickness is 1.0mm

The face of this ring is 16.8mm in width and the main setting sits at a maximum height of 6.6mm
