"Rye."
A handcoloured engraving of the Sussex town of Rye, with the town visible on the skyline together with Camber Castle.
In the foreground a cart is running away down the causeway, and people are being saved by colleagues from the encroaching sea.
I believe this illustrates a tense moment in the building of the Military Canal.
One of Turner's South Coast views, first published in 1824. This almost cetainly a later edition, but nicely handcoloured and ready for framing.
