The BARWA Outdoor Pool Patio Side Chaise Lounge chair was designed by Edgar Bartolucci and John Waldheim and introduced in 1947. “Barwa” is a combination of the designers last names - Edgar Bartolucci and John J. Waldheim and manufactured by Barwa Associates, circa 1947.

BARWA is synonymous with postwar American leisure. The bent aluminum frame allows for a two-position relaxation just by rocking it forward or back for feet-over-head reclining. At the time it was touted as the epitome of healthful relaxation according the company’s advertising brochure. This is considered a streamline update from Michael Thonet’s bentwood lounge chairs or Le Corbusier and Marcel Breuer’s metal versions. Made famous because American artist Georgia O'Keeffe had several of the chairs in her New Mexico ranch homes. The chairs can be found in art institutes and collections worldwide.

Vintage preowned used condition. The aluminium is weathered from being outside as they were intended. The canvas slipcover has fading, marks, scuffs, stains. The springs holding the slipcover in the back has little rust. Has dust dirt and aged wear consistent with use and age. May possibly have dust, dirt, aged wear residue, sticker residue, marks, scratches, scuffs, smudges, rubs, stains, fading, edgewear, wear

These would, obviously, look fabulous on your patio or by the POOL but I can also see them covered in a fabric that would make them work wonderfully in a lanai, sunroom, living room, media room watching TV or bedroom by a fireplace
