Heathergems jewelry is handmade from the stems of heather, a common plant in the Scottish highlands, and pewter fittings.  The heather used is too old to be of any nutritional value for wildlife and is harvested in a manner which promotes the growth of new heather.

The stems are dried, shot-blasted to remove the bark and dyed various colors using natural dyes.  Stems of different colors are then mixed together and compressed into a block.  Eighty tons of pressure is required to press the block of stems together.  The block is then cut into slices and individual pieces are cut, shaped and inserted into the pewter fittings by skilled craftsmen, before being lacquered to give the final finished look.  The reverse side of the pendant is completely finished.

Because of the natural dying process, no two pendants are ever exactly alike.  Each pendant is very unique and very BEAUTIFUL.   Made in Scotland.
