Both turn on and allow two way communication.  Not sure how far of a distance the two way communication is carried. Both radios must be on the same channel.

Please Note: Plastic antenna covering came off (there's a metal antenna under the plastic covering) & has been super-glued back on & put black duct tape on the top of this same antenna (since tip broke off). The other radio antenna looks fine. See pics.

Tested at a short range and very clear two way communication, even with a broken tip off of one of the radio's plastic antenna covers.

No docking stations included. Also no batteries included, as it will likely delay overall shipping time since when batteries included, item(s) are to be transported entirely via ground (not first class/air). Each radio takes 4 "AAAs" each.

Note: Attached pics (along with above instruction manual link) explain the estimated distance between 2 to 6 miles depending on which channels the radios are set on.  Both radios must be on the same channel to allow 2 way communication.
