Borden Flats Lighthouse is an historic lighthouse on the Taunton River in Fall River, MA. It is a tower-on-caisson type of lighthouse known as a sparkplug lighthouse. Borden Flats Lighthouse was built in 1881, and is a 50 foot cast-iron tower that includes a keeper's quarters. The light had a fourth-order Fresel lens producing a fixed red light 47 feet above the mean high water tide line.
The lighthouse was badly battered during the 1938 Hurricane which left it with a pronounced tilt, which it still has today. A new wider caisson was later added around the base of the lighthouse for additional protection from future hurricanes. In 1957, the lighthouse was electrified and then, automated in 1963. In 1977, its Fresnel lens was removed and replaced with a modern Vega lens and the fog horn was replaced with an electronic foghorn in 1983.
Today, Bordon Flats Light is privately owned and offered to the public for overnight stays. Lighthouse guests will enjoy the incredible views of Mount Hope Bay; Braga Bridge; Battleship Cove in which the USS Massachusetts and other Navy vessels are permanently docked; and, the historic city of Fall River, MA.

William. B. MacGregor Jr. Watercolors Nautical Chart Artist

William B. MacGregor, Jr. was born in Medfield, MA, the son and grandson of Norfolk Hunt Club kennel masters. Many of his family members were self taught artists, woodcarvers, automobile mechanics and veterans of foreign wars including his father a WW1 US Army veteran. Bill is a graduate of Medfield High School, Wentworth Institute, and Northeastern University. His engineering career, from which he is now retired, included working for military and aerospace companies in industrial engineering and IR optics. His painting incorporates “old skool” mechanical and civil drafting tools and he uses a mixed medium of watercolors, acrylics and inks. Two rabbits are often in quite a few of his paintings. Look for them. He is frequently commissioned by United States Naval officers to create paintings of their ships and aircraft carriers on nautical charts. In May, 2018, and for one year, four of Bill’s automotive related paintings were on display at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, MA
