The Galveston Coast Guard station is currently located on northeast end of Galveston Island at Fort Point. The Coast Guard began its service to the Galveston Bay area 1878 and erected a lifeboat station on Pelican Island. The station was destroyed by the Hurricane of 1900 and rebuilt in 1909. The station was once again destroyed in the great hurricane of 1915. Then station was relocated to the old immigration station on Pelican Island until it was moved to its current location at Fort Point in 1938. After being attached to Group Galveston for over 26 years, Station Galveston became an independent unit with a command of its own in 1994. Its primary missions are Search and Rescue, Homeland Security, and Law Enforcement operations.

The USCGC Seahorse is a Marine Protector class of coastal patrol boats for the US Coast Guard. The 87-foot-long vessels were built by Bollinger Shipyards in Lockport, Louisiana. Each boat is named after sea creatures which fly or swim. The USCGC Seahorse was commissioned in January 2008.
The Coast Guard placed its original order in 1999 for 50 boats, which were delivered by mid-2002. Several additional orders brought the class to a total of 74 ships. The Mar
ine Protector class replaced the 82-foot Point class.

William B. MacGregor, Jr. was born in Medfield, MA, the son and grandson of Norfolk Hunt Club kennel masters. Many of his family members were self taught artists, woodcarvers, automobile mechanics and veterans of foreign wars including his father a WW1 US Army veteran. Bill is a graduate of Medfield High School, Wentworth Institute, and Northeastern University. His engineering career, from which he is now retired, included working for military and aerospace companies in industrial engineering and IR optics. His painting incorporates “old skool” mechanical and civil drafting tools and he uses a mixed medium of watercolors, acrylics and inks. Two rabbits are often in quite a few of his paintings. Look for them. He is frequently commissioned by United States Naval officers to create paintings of their ships and aircraft carriers on nautical charts. In May,2018, and for one year, four of Bill’s automotive related paintings were on display at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, MA
