Bright, lean, sharp, solidly bound, new book Illustrated Throughout PUBLISHED BY NORMAN CARRINGTON SCHIPKE, IN 2001 This is the story about Arthur Simeon “Sim” Carrington that had to be told. Too many Americans of his caliber have remained anonymous long enough. The life of Sim and the 6th North Carolina Regiment are explored in this work. This is a supplemental regimental history as well as a very personal biographical sketch of a distinctively American family. The Civil War was a family affair. Sim’s family fought in every state where there was a battle. Sim and his cousin, William Preston Mangum, were carried off the field at Manassas. Sim served under Robert E. Lee at Second Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and later was captured and spent the rest of the war as a Prisoner of War. The work also explores life on the home front through the experiences of his brother William Carrington, a Captain in the 45th North Carolina Militia, and sisters Lucy, Celestia, and Ruth Jane. The Civil War wasn’t just about soldier and battle, it was about men and women sacrificing everything on the alter of America. This history also contains Civil War era letters written by Author Simeon Carrington, his brother, and sisters, cousins William Preston Mangum, Leonard Henderson Mangum (Major General Patrick R. Cleburne’s aide-de-camp), and Martha “Patti” Mangum. These missives bring and extraordinarily personal and insightful perspective about the pre-Civil War period and the Civil War. Sim is the central figure and represents the sense of duty, hard work, self-sacrifice which typifies great American – the ones that worked, served, and ultimately shaped our destiny. They lived the American Dream and made it a reality. THIS BOOK IS IN MINT CONDITION This is a brand new, unread, pristine condition, first edition book.
