Norman Rockwell inspired Sampler Doll of Lady Sewing With Thread & Needle.

Norman Rockwell painted this demure young lady, Leslie, working with needle and thread on her embroidery for for his March 1, 1924 post cover. Costume pieces were a popular subject for magazine covers during this period and Rockwell could not have been more delighted.

The doll is truly beautiful from her rich, brown hair drawn back in a cluster of curls at the nape of her neck, to her exquisitely, sculptured, face and shoulders. Her lovely features have been carefully painted by hand: the woman has brown eyes, faintly rouged cheeks and soft, pink lips , the hand-tailored and authentically styled antebellum gown could have been copied from a museum display! A delicate lace flounce frames her lovely shoulders and her wide elbow length sleeves are edged with lace and velvet ribbon. Each ruffle of the voluminous skirt is boarded with matching green velvet ribbon!

NOTE: two legs of chair are broken and otherwise everything else is in excellent condition.
