You are admiring an amazing "Volute" specimen, a Melo tesselata (Roding, 1798) measuring 113.1mm and graded F++/Gem...a very unique form with a most interesting spire & a gorgeous color pattern & markings displayed...an outstanding specimen. This beauty was collected by fishermen in 3-5m off Singkep, Riau, Indonesia. The Melo Volutes had many uses in their long history from fishermen using them as balers of water from their boats & canoes to measuring cups for sugar, flour & other spices that were sold in native markets. A member of the Volutidae family, very popular with collectors and an excellent addition for your collection. Thank you for visiting our store this evening and an excellent choice, too.
