The new series "Masterpieces of the Museums" by Monnaie de Paris is dedicated to the great works of art that are exhibited in France or that were created there. This rectangular commemorative coin is issued in honor of the Dutch baroque artist Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) and his work "The Girl with the Pearl Earring". The world-famous painting was created between 1665 and 1667 and has not lost its special charm to this day. In particular, the identity of the girl depicted and the pearl earring, which seems to float, have always puzzled the viewer. The motif of the 10 euro silver coin shows an image of the painting and the inscriptions "LA JEUNE FILLE À LA PERLE - J. VERMEER", "CHEFS D'ŒUVRE DES MUSÉES" and the year of issue 2021. At the bottom is the facade of the Paris Museum Jeu de Paume, where the work was first exhibited outside the Netherlands in 1921. Different views of French museums as well as the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" and the face value "10 EURO" are depicted on the reverse of the coin. The limited silver commemorative coin is delivered in the original case including a certificate of authenticity.
