Am 12. November 1918 fand die Ausrufung der Republik Deutschösterreich statt
und es wurde von der Provisorischen Nationalversammlung formell beschlossen,
dass der Staat Deutschösterreich eine demokratische Republik und Teil der deutschen Republik sei.
Im Vertrag von Saint-Germain wurde 1919 der Staatsname „Republik Österreich“ vorgeschrieben
und der laut Verfassung vorgesehene Beitritt zur neuen Deutschen Republik
durch die Verpflichtung zur Unabhängigkeit verhindert.
Dieses „Anschlussverbot“ war außerdem durch Artikel 80 des Versailler Vertrags bewirkt,
welcher das Deutsche Reich zur Achtung der Unabhängigkeit Österreichs verpflichtete.

On 12th November 1918, German-Austria, by law,
declared itself to be a democratic republic and part of the new German republic.
The Treaty of Saint Germain and Treaty of Versailles explicitly forbid union between Austria and Germany.
The treaties also forced German-Austria to rename itself as "Republic of Austria"
which consequently led to the first Austrian Republic.
