Clocking-in machines frequently show up on eBay, but rarely - if ever - of this size and quality. This exceptional, meticulously restored and fully-operational example of Alexander Dey's Time Register is to a design that was patented in 1888 and manufactured by Howard Brothers of Liverpool and London.  It provided an automated system for allowing factory workers to clock in and out without the need for paid clerks/timekeepers, or any other 'keys, checks, cards, pin pricks or disputes'.  This impressive example, most likely dating to around 1900, stands 87cm high, measures 48cm wide and is 43cm deep.  The huge cast iron 'wheel' to the front is 64cm in diameter and is cast in relief with the words 'The "Dey" Time Register' to the left hand side and 'Howard Brothers, Liverpool & London' to the right.  To the inside of the right hand door are the original instructions.  The instrument is supplied in fine condition and in full working order, and with all keys.  Trade advertisement (last image) a stock image.
