Ingram & May Gilt Bronze Football Player Figure Clock / Barometer Case c. 1884

This is an extremely rare Victorian solid gilt bronze football player figure clock / barometer case, circa 1884.

The figure has a design registration number 4587, see the 2nd image for the original hand written design registration page. The design registry database shows the original description;

Class 1: metal goods. Registered design No 4587: registered by Arthur Ingram and Charles May, Silversmiths, of 16 Carlisle Street, Soho Square, London. Football player holding ball in his hand the ball being utilised for a clock or aneroid barometer.

Additionally the makers have used their 'I&M' silver stamp in the boot heel for Ingram & May. The figure is missing the clock or barometer movement from the football. It is an extremely finely detailed sculptural artwork.
