About this picture

Here is the bridge over Afon Dwyfor River at Cwm Pennant, Garndolbenmaen, near Porthmadog. The trees near it are much bigger than they were in 1986.

About the artist

ARTHUR MILES of Cardiff RI (1905-1987) active to 1986

Arthur Miles was born at Faversham in Kent and became a self-taught artist. He did many jobs during his life but was able to take up painting full time in the 1960’s. He was elected as a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour in 1949. From his homes in Gwaelod y Garth, Glamorgan and 19 Richmond Crescent, Cardiff, he travelled and painted the length and breadth of Wales. He was a member of the South Wales Group. In 1985 he became President of the Watercolour Society of Wales and the South Wales Art Society He exhibited at the Royal National Eisteddfod, the Society for Education in Art, the Royal Academy as well as mounting many one man exhibitions in Cardiff and Abergavenny. He was commissioned by the National Museum of Wales, the National Union of Mineworkers. His work is held in the Contemporary Art Society for Wales and by the Arts Council for Wales. Research shows that his works have realised up to £475 at auction.

Usually, If I buy a framed picture at auction, I would expect to have to pay around £50 to someone like Mail Boxes Etc for shipping, but that includes collection, packing and shipping.
Frequently the cost of shipping is nearly as much as the picture itself, but does include a margin for commercial profit.
