I think this is a view from the Wirral looking over the etuary of theestuary of the River Dee towards the coastline of North Wales in the distance.
Here again you can see that Wimperis has painted a 'big sky' which is akin to what you would see if you were looking at the same view. Although in this view, the trees reduce the amount of sky on the left. Wimperis' influence on the landscape painting of his time with his 'big skies' was significant.
As you will see from the annotation on the back, This watercolour was bought from the artist's studio sale at Christies on 13th February 1901 (just a couple of months after Edmund Wimperis died on New Year's Eve 1900) by Mr Henry D. Rhodes. As you will see, he paid £533 for it, a very handsome price for that time.
Research of more than 340 works by Wimperis sold at auction realised an average of more than £590.
About the artist
EDMUND MORISON WIMPERIS VPRI, RI RBA (1835-1900)
Edmund Morison WIMPERIS VPRI, RI, RBA (1835-1900), - was born at Flocker's Brook, Chester, the eldest son of Mary and Edmund Richard Wimperis.
He was elected
to membership of:
Royal Society of British Artists 1870
Associate of Royal Institute of Painters in Water-Colours 1872
Member RI 1875
Vice President RI 1895-1900
Royal Institute of Oil Painters 1883
He is recorded
as having work accepted for exhibiting at:

Royal Society of Artists Birmingham 6
Dowdswell Galleries 221

Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool 10
Manchester City Art Gallery 5

His father was a cashier of Messrs. Walker, Parker, & Co.'s lead works at
Chester. All members of the family were talented artists.
They were close friends with Charles Kingsley, author of The Water Babies who
was a canon at Chester Cathedral.
Wimperis was apprenticed for seven years to Mason Jackson, a wood engraver in London in 1851. He also trained under and strongly influenced by Miles Birket Foster.
In around 1863 he went to work for Joseph Cundall, a publisher, and also for The Illustrated London News and other periodicals before beginning to paint under the tutilage of Thomas Collier from whom he learnt not to try to include too much detail in his landscapes in which he specialised because he felt that his figures were not good enough.
He travelled and sketched with Collier in The Home Counties, Suffolk, Sussex and Wales. Critics believe that his best work shows expansive skies, painted outdoors (en plein air). With David Cox he is remembered as one of the ‘big sky’ painters of Wales.
By the age of 38 he had become a professional landscape painter and was admitted as a member of the Society of British Artists in 1871. Then in 1874 he was admitted as a member of The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours after first exhibiting in 1866, he became a Vice President in 1895.
In 1879–80, he and his two sisters, Fanny and Jenny, went on a visit to their sister, Susanna, married and living in Dunedin, New Zealand. He stayed for some months and exhibited at the Otago Art Society in 1880.
He died at Southbourne,
Christchurch, Hampshire on Christmas Day 1900.
Christies held the sale of his works on 13th February 1901, just 52
days after he passed.
After researching 317 paintings by Wimperis, I calculate that the average hammer price was £769 including buyers’ premium at an average of 30% (including VAT) on top of the hammer price.

I do not aim to make a profit on the shipping.
To make my listings available to international buyers, I need to estimate the cost of shipping.
I have done this in two categories,
Large Letter 35.3 cm x 25 cm x 2.5cm – 750 g
Parcel up to 90cm x 60cm x 60cm – 2 kg

Usually, If I buy a framed picture at auction, I would expect to have to pay
around £50 to someone like Mail Boxes Etc for shipping, but that includes
collection, packing and shipping.
Frequently the cost of shipping is nearly as much as the picture itself, but
does include a margin for commercial profit.
I do not aim to make a profit on the shipping costs.
