After getting this unmarked medallion server, I asked a group of collectors who they thought the maker was. Fortunately, one had a sister server to this one. It was Gorham. The other one was a pastry server, but there is no doubt they came from the same source. The slightly different shape of the server end was the only difference. I have posted a picture of the marks on the other piece. Note that the construction is identical. This server is 10" or 25.5 cm long. The total weight including the handle is 4.095 ozt. As I am unable to separate the outer part of the handle from the inner silver rod, I am unable to determine the exact weight of the silver; however, I would estimate it to be approximately 3.5 ozt. We believe Gorham manufactured this around 1860, maybe a bit earlier. This particular medallion pattern is not illustrated in Soeffing's book on medallion flatware. We currently have many listings of excellent silver made by Gorham, Tiffany, Durgin and other outstanding makers. We have some very fine British silver listed, also.
