BIOGRAPHY

ROY ELDRIDGE d1989. American jazz trumpeter nicknamed "Little Jazz". His sophisticated use of harmony including the use of tritone substitutions his virtuosic solos exhibiting a departure from the dominant style of jazz trumpet innovator Louis Armstrong and his strong impact on Dizzy Gillespie mark him as one of the most influential musicians of the swing era and a precursor of bebop. He died in New York aged 78 on February 26th 1989

CERTIFICATION & PROVENANCE

From the substantial and wonderful music / jazz autograph collection of David Ives numbering several hundred items mostly obtained by him during the 1950-80s. He was a frequent concert-goer and well-known writer / contributor for The Jazz Journal from the 1950s corresponding regularily with some of the best known artists of the period. Many of the notes and autographs are dedicated to him. Includes a recent typed letter from a family member further detailing the known history of his collecting.
