DOG FIGHT OVER THE CHANNEL
PETER LORD
 UNIQUE ORIGINAL VINTAGE WATERCOLOUR 1942

About this picture

After serving with the Royal Air Force in Ceylon (Sri Lanka), it seems that Peter Lord returned to the UK to fly in Wellington bombers. It looks as if this is a scene he encountered when returning from a sortie. His squadron may have come under attack from Messerschmits which were then attacked by Spitfires resulting in a dog fight.
North Foreland Lighthouse to the south of thr Thames estuary and the white cliffs of Dover can just be seen in the distance.

About the Artist

Peter Lord

Brothers Peter and Francis E. Lord worked with Bill Urquart Dykes who raced Alvis cars at Brooklands, in the Tourist Trophy races in Northern Ireland and at the Le Mans 24 hour. Their art work accordingly featured many Alvis cars and other significant cars of the 1930’s and 1940’s. Their work was published in the Alvis Club Magazine. Many of their works feature The Brooklands circuit in its heyday. They appear to have been very involved with activities generally at Brooklands.
During World War II, Peter Lord served in the Royal Airforce in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) before returning to UK
