Antique Marine Theodolite Pibal Scobe

Original WWII Navy Pilot Balloon Bubble Sextant

This is an excellent example of a Navy Theodolite Pibal Scope, produced by Keuffel & Esser Co. for the US Navy back in 1943.

A Theodolite a surveying instrument with a rotating telescope for measuring horizontal and vertical angles.

In September of 1939, the US Military concluded that the standard American field surveying instruments were antiquated, bulky and not easy to use. It recommended that they be replaced by modern, lightweight, and more effective instruments that would permit field work to be accomplished more rapidly, hence the production of the above theodolite by K&E (Hoboken, NJ) in 1943.

Please check the photos closely as the pictures are of the actual item. This antique is in remarkably good shape for it's age, none of the delicate glass pieces are broken and no other parts are damaged. Some original parts or pieces might be missing and I make no claim to the functionality of the item, although all the mechanisms seem to operate normally and freely and there is no obvious corrosion present on any of the moving parts.

This item is an antique and is being sold AS-IS. This was found among other maritime antiques being sold as part of a house cleanout.

The photos are of the actual item you will receive, please check them carefully for details.
