This is the Grateful Dead's largest and only hit album, the massive tour that followed the release of 1987's "In the Dark".
The New Year's Eve concert was recorded at the Coliseum Arena in Oakland, California, on December 31, 1987.

The set list was also specially designed for the live broadcast on Pay TV on that day.
The band consists of four original members, Jerry Garcia (g), Bill Kruzman (ds), Phil Resch (b, vo), and Bob Ware (g, vo), plus Mickey Hart (ds), who has played with the band since 1967, and Brent Midland (kbds, vo), who has played with the band since 1979.
