Conditioning : 5 grams (in a Petri dish measuring 90 x 14 mm)

Grid propolis is harvested on plastic food grids placed above the frames of the hive.

Grid propolis is primarily used by the bee as a building material.

The propolis that we offer is raw, straight from the hive, it is sorted from the most important undesirable elements, it is neither decanted nor washed. 

Propolis is harvested throughout the year according to the variable production levels of the colonies and the periodicity of the maintenance of the hive elements.

It is produced by local black bees (Apis mellifera mellifera) in the Conservatoire de l'Abeille Noire En Combrailles, Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park.

Definition :

Propolis, sometimes compared to bee glue, is a substance that bees make from resins collected from the buds of certain trees.

The bee cuts with its mandibles fragments of resin which it stretches like a thread and which it piles up after having kneaded it into a ball in these pollen baskets with their hind legs. 

In the hive, the workers unload the forager by softening the resin with their salivary secretions resulting in organic maturation and adding a little wax to it.

Its composition varies, but it can be summarized as follows: resins and balms at more than 55%, waxes between 25 to 30%, essential oils between 5 to 10%, pollen 3%, miscellaneous (mineral and organic matter) 5%.

Propolis includes more than 300 compounds.

Propolis (resinous material), is very sticky and elastic when the temperature is high.

To use propolis more easily, place it in the freezer for a few hours to harden, it then becomes brittle and is easier to use.
