CUSTOMER REVIEW

A brilliant depiction of the cost in human lives during the vicious fighting to cross the River Rapido in WW2 Italy prior to Monte Cassino. It portrays the true conditions of Italian campaign struggling through mud , wind and rain and enemy fire.

The Battle for Monte Cassino told by a man who was a Soldier in WWII and it shows. All of us who have served in the Army/navy/Air force will recognize the Characters, regardless of Nationality. The brave, the drunk, the martinet, the room temperature IQ, every squad or platoon had and has them. I can only look in admiration
and awe at the (extra)ordinary men who tried to fight in those impossible conditions. None of it is exaggerated, as other Novels by other writers (please read the War memories of Spike Milligan) confirm this
horrible uphill massacre through supposedly sunny Italy.
