This is a wonderful Yellow and Brown Fang Mask from from the peoples of Gabon, Guinea.The Ngil masks were worn by members of a male society of the  same name during initiations of new members.  Masqueraders, clad in raffia costumes and are attended by helpers would materialize in the village after dark, and be illuminated by flickering torchlight's.  These Fang masks were worn by itinerant troubadours and for hunting and punishing sorcerers,  and are painted with colors. The Fang mask style are large elongated masks covered with kaolin and features a face that was usually heart-shaped with a long fine nose. This mask would be a great and addition to your home as well as your collection.
