'ROCK AND ROLL ROOTS WITH JACK ALIX' WAS ONE OF THE RAREST RADIO SERIES THAT EVER AIRED.

READ ON AND LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS SERIES AND SHOW AFTER WHICH, IF YOU DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT RADIO SHOWS, PLEASE CONTINUE FOR MY HUMBLE 'RADIO SHOWS 101' WHERE I TRY TO EXPLAIN EXACTLY WHAT IS A RADIO SHOW AND WHY YOU NEED THEM FOR YOUR COLLECTION.

ROCK AND ROLL ROOTS ASSOCIATES RADIO NETWORKS PRESENTED A SERIES CALLED 'ROCK AND ROLL ROOTS'.

THE SERIES WAS A WEEKLY TIME LIMITED SERIES; EVERY SHOW WAS 3 HOURS IN LENGTH ON THREE LPS WITH CUE SHEETS.

THE SHOW'S HOST WAS JACK ALIX ALSO KNOWN AS 'JA THE DJ'

IF YOU LIVED IN THE WASHINGTON DC AREA IN THE LATE 50'S AND EARLY 60'S YOU WOULD REMEMBER MILT GRANT.  MILT GRANT WAS A DICK CLARK LIKE DJ ON A CHANNEL FIVE DAILY AFTERNOON DANCE SHOW CALLED 'THE MILT GRANT SHOW'.  LIKE AMERICAN BANDSTAND, MILT HAD A REGULAR CREW OF TEENAGE DANCERS, HAD TOP ARTISTS LIP SYNC THEIR HITS LIVE IN THE STUDIO TO THE ADORATION OF THE CHEERING TEENAGE DANCERS.  THE SHOW WAS A MUST FOR WASHINGTON AREA TEENS EVERY AFTERNOON.

ONE OF THE TEEN DANCERS AND MOST POPULAR WAS JACK ALIX.  LIKE SOME OF THE DANCERS ON AMERICAN BANDSTAND, JACK ALIX BECAME A MINI STAR ON HIS OWN BECAUSE OF HIS PERSONALITY AND GOOD LOOKS. MILT GRANT TOOK HIM UNDER HIS WING.

IN 1961 THE SHOW WAS CANCELLED.  MILT GRANT, AN INTELLIGENT MAN AND ENTEPRENER, SOON WAS BACK ON THE AIR BUT ON RADIO.  HE ARRANGED FOR A GROUP OF FIVE OR SIX ROCK STATIONS IN THE DC AREA INCLUDING MARYLAND AND VIRGINIA TO BROADCAST LIVE EVERY SUNDAY A THREE HOUR SHOW ON WHAT HE CALLED AND PROBABLY WAS CORRECT, AMERICA'S FIRST TEEN NETWORK.  THE SHOW WAS ENORMOUSLY POPULAR.

BUT, AS OFTEN HAPPENS, THE APPRENTICE YEARNS FOR THE TOP SPOT AND JACK STARTED COMPETING WITH MILT WHICH BECAME A WELL PUBLICIZED FEUD.  JACK STARTED HIS OWN TEEN NETWORK ON OTHER STATIONS TO COMPETE WITH MILT'S NETWORK.

IT'S NOT CLEAR WHO WON THE FEUD BUT MILT ULTIMATELY CLOSED DOWN HIS TEEN NETWORK AND GOT THE LICENSE FOR THE NEW UHF CHANNEL 20 AND CONTINUED HIS SUCCESS.  HE ULTIMATELY SOLD CHANNEL 20, MOVED TO TEXAS, AND USED THE MONEY HE MADE FROM WDCA TO START OTHER SUCCESSFUL UHF STATIONS.

JACK ALIX, FOLLOWING HIS TEEN NETWORK STINT, BEGAN A NATIONAL SYNDICATED RADIO SHOW.  THIS SHOW IS #9 OF THE SERIES.  UNFORTUNATELY THE SHOW WAS NOT A HUGE SUCCESS.  I AM NOT SURE THERE WERE MORE THAN 20 OR 30 EDITIONS OF THE SHOW.

BUT, IT WAS A FUN SHOW AND YOU WILL ENJOY IT A LOT.

THERE ARE NO COMMERCIALS ON THIS SHOW.  THE SHOW WAS SOLD TO AFFILIATE STATIONS AND THE STATIONS INSERTED THEIR OWN COMMERCIALS.

IT IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO OWN ONE OF THE RAREST SHOWS YOU WILL EVER SEE AND NOW YOU KNOW 'THE REST OF THE STORY'!!

THE CUE SHEETS ARE INCLUDED WITH EACH SHOW AND ARE IN GOOD CONDITION.

THIS SHOW  FEATURES JEFFERSON AIRPLANE AND JEFFERSON STARSHIP IN TWO PROGRAM SEGMENTS

EACH SEGMENT OF THIS THREE HOUR SHOW HAD A THEME OF ITS OWN SUCH AS LOVE HITS, RUNNING SONGS, SUPERSTAR TRIBUTE, DANCING SONGS, GREAT AMERICAN GROUPS, GREAT MALE STARS, COMPARISON SONGS, GREAT BRITISH GROUPS, MOON SONGS, GREAT FEMALE STARS, LITTLE SONGS, NUMBER ONE 15 YEARS APART, GIRLS NAMES, BOYS NAMES, AND MANY MORE.

THIS IS A ONE OF A KIND AND IF YOU ARE A COLLECTOR OF RARE RADIO SHOWS, YOU WILL WANT THIS IN YOUR COLLECTION.

I am pleased to offer these great  and rare shows to you.  It is not only the music but a piece of Americana that most people do not even know about.  It is a piece of radio history you are getting with these shows.  You just aren't going to find these shows anymore.  Think of what they will be worth in a few years!  (IF you wanted to sell.)  I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price.

SO HERE ARE THE BIG QUESTIONS IF YOU DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT RADIO SHOWS:

 WHAT IS A RADIO SHOW?

 WHY COLLECT THEM?

 WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?

Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them.

First allow me tell you my own personal story of discovering the wonder of radio shows.

I discovered radio shows quite by accident while reading one of my favorite (long since departed) magazines called "Discoveries" (It was later bought by the same company that publishes "Goldmine" which I personally always considered a lesser publication, but that is another story.

This was before ebay became the driving force in radio show sales (and everything else) in the later 1990's.

I was especially attracted in "Discoveries" to a two page (or more) spread in each issue by a guy called "The Old Hippie".

Let me tell you, the Old Hippie had it all.  He was a real pioneer.  Way before anyone knew what radio shows even were let alone that they could be bought as rarities, he had the market cornered.

Most shows that he advertised were way beyond my budget but I drooled over those pages every issue and once in awhile I could afford one or two.

Now, I have attempted in my own humble way to take on the mantle of "The Old Hippie".  I have listed over 11,000 unique radio shows of all genres for you all to drool over, and most at prices, hopefully, that collectors can better afford!  I want to make available to collectors what I could not afford and especially in these days of higher prices and lesser availability.

Radio shows are harder and harder to find in quantity and the prices for the ones still out there just go higher and higher as they disappear from the market.  However, because of my large presence on eBay, I am always being contacted with selling offers, some of which I take advantage of and some I have to pass on because of the prices. I have found that by buying in bulk, even when many or most of the shows are lesser known but still amazing shows, I can offer the best prices on all titles.

So, again, what is a radio show?

Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them.

Radio Shows are syndicated productions by one of several large and small distributors who supply broadcast product to radio stations normally during weekends when the usual air personalities have a break.  Many air on Saturday or Sunday mornings, afternoons  and evenings or less often during weekday or overnight segments.  They often feature some of the best known voices for their genre from across the country thus the Dick Clark's and Casey Kasem's and Rick Dees and Dick Bartley and so many others.

People collect them for various reasons.

Some just collect the series because they like it and want them all.

Some collect their favorite artists or genre of music.  Rather than an album by the artist or a compilation bought downloaded, in radio shows they have a unique presentation of their favorite artist or music not available anywhere else and always with dj presentation which is very entertaining.

Some collect interviews with their favorite artists as most shows had interview segments.

AND, these shows are in limited quantity.

They were pressed just for affiliate stations. Many have just a few in circulation.  Some of the more popular shows may have as many as a few hundred of each week's show that survived but think about it.  A few hundred or less for some 350 million Americans and millions of overseas collectors who look for unique presentations of their favorite artists or form of music.

AND they are increasingly hard to find.  They were first distributed on reel to reel tape or on lp, later on CD and even later (after 2000 for most shows) on CDR.  Now they are not available at all to collectors since they are distributed by digital download much like you get your music from iTunes.

These shows become rarer and rarer every day because the people who buy them hold on to them.

The shows that you get now and hold on to will never decrease in value and only increase.

As the postal service increases their rates, my shipping rates over the years has decreased.  And, I have one of the biggest radio show libraries in the world consisting of over fifteen thousand shows, so many that I don't even know all that I have and am sometimes amazed when I go to look for one show and find another that I did not realize I had.

Finally, it is Americana at its best.

Whether the show be from the 60's or 2000's, rock, countdown, oldies, country, classical, religious, jazz or big band, it is unique and home grown.

And you just can't find them anywhere.  Even record stores that still exist will rarely have any.   Radio shows are wonderful representations of the real golden age of radio at least music wise.

And every  one you buy is  an original, not a copy, not a remake - all limited editions in the hundreds at most and many much less

Remember that these shows are disappearing from the market because they are no longer available.  The lp shows have not been made since the early 90's and they have the truest fidelity as you know if you are an audiophile.  The CD shows are now also unavailable as shows are now only in digital downloads.  So, the days of unique shows not copied from the soundboard of a station and sold as such are gone.  This is all there is and will be.

It is said that selling radio shows is a vanishing hobby as the shows quickly disappear.  Well, I still sell Betamax machines and they sell quickly whenever I list them so that is not true, but it is true that they will become rarer and harder to find so grab them now while the prices are still reasonable.

As always, I charge only shipping on the first show you buy for U.S. buyers and  for my international friends pay shipping for the heaviest show and all others ship for no extra charge,  so the more you buy the more money you will save.

Good Luck and God Bless You.
