AIRCAM AVIATION SERIES LATE 1960S/EARLY 1970S

The Aircam Aviation Series Of Books Took A Largely Pictorial Look At Classic Military Aircraft Types, With Only A Short Narrative Text Serving As Introduction. A Companion Series Of Specials Portrayed The Camouflage And Markings Worn By Various Military Air Arms And Flying Units.
After 5-6 Pages Of Concise Text Introducing The Subject, The Remainder Of Each Book Comprised B+W Photographs, 8 Pages Of Colour Profile Artwork And 3-4 Pages Of Small Plan-View Tone Drawings, Showing The Upper And Lower Surfaces Of The Aircraft Illustrated In Colour. The Original Editions Of The First Few Titles Were Printed Entirely On Glossy Paper, But Later Titles And Reprints Appeared With Matt Paper For All Except The Colour Profiles. This Resulted In Rather Poor Reproduction Of Some Of The Photographs.
Subsequent Reviewers Have Cast Doubt On The Accuracy Of Some Of The Colour Profiles, But The Range Of Aircraft Chosen Is Still Impressive And The Colour Schemes Often Unusual. The High Prominence Given To Japanese Aircraft Was Very Unusual For The Late 1960s/Early 1970s. Text written by aeroflight

A Modeler’s ’MUST-HAVE’ by Michael T. Currie (Amazon). ’Here’s a book for any aviation ’nut’ (I’m one, and damned proud of it too) on one of the greatest planes of all time, period. It wasn’t as elegant as the Spitfire or the Bf-109, but it was very rugged, great handling plane that could ’take a licking, and keep on ticking’. It took battle-damaged that would have brought down most planes, and still brought it’s pilot home. This as book for any modeler who like to try something different with his kit. It has excellent colored plates and excellent guide (and b.w. photos) for various color schemes used on Hurricanes. Be forwarned, this book was original written 40 yrs. ago, there aren’t any photos of the wheel wells, etc. (Not a big deal for modelers back then), however it’s still a great reference source for anyone modeling the Hurricane. A MUST for any modeler’s library.

Though since long out of print (OOP), it remains one of the standard works for modellers who want to change their standard Hurricane kit in a different version. The paintings of Richard Ward were for long years the standard in aviation side-views, and there is quite a lot of them, fourty-eight to be exact, inside plus an additional four on the front cover. The books is also packed with black and white photographs of the plane and has a comprehensive text about the plane’s history.Note: This book was published both by Osprey as no. 24 of their Aircam series and by Arco as no. 33 of their Arco/Aircam series!
