It's one of a kind I professionally modified in my drum and guitar center about  25 years ago...

   At that time I was doing repairs for 100's of high schools. Their drum sets were usually sets from the 60's with tom holders and bass spurs that were falling apart. This set was made to display the top replacement systems available to me from Pearl.  I was retrofitting them constantly. Both the orange outer finish and silver inner finishes on all 3 drums are the original finishes. They are all a bit different if you look at them carefully. I had these 3 drums sitting around in my drum center. It was a coincidence they were all orange sparkle so I made this one of a kind drum set. What I didn't expect was how well it plays. All of the drum heads are in very good condition.

   All three drums have been modified to fit Pearl spurs, tom brackets, a bass drum receiving bracket and the 3 piece tension lugs on the bass drum. There are 6 Ludwig claws on the resonator side and 6 Japanese claws on the batter. I used a regular Camco bass pedal which is not included however I AM including the customized pedal beater which should be all you need. It's a vintage USA Camco beater that has been shortened, shaved on one side (to prevent rotation) and has added weight in the form of a hi hat clutch part to compensate for the shorter throw.

   The snare and bass drum have no branding. They are Japanese probably from the sixties or early seventies. **LISTING UPDATE**SEE BELOW. The bass drum was originally a parade snare drum. I switched out the metal hoops with wooden hoops. Not sure where I got them. Probably a marching drum. One of the hoops has the cutouts for a snare bed. the finish on it is perfect except for some spots underneath.

 "Top of the line at the time" Pearl parts! Due to their shape to fit the spurs are mounted upside down.  The bass drum mount cymbal stand has a vintage knurled Ludwig L arm at the bottom and a possibly Gibraltar or Westbury top. There's an added mount on the other side of the bass for a "lefty" or to add an accessory.

***UPDATE**" In my notes about the unbranded Japanese drums I had thought possibly Coronet or Baxter. I sent the listing to a friend and got this comment back. "That snare drum on your "Franken set", [I call it "The Frankenstein"]  is identical to my Toledo that came from Sears, Identical snare strainer, Identical tension rods, tension lugs, and counter hoops. The cymbal mount you placed on the bass drum left hand side, is also identical to my Toledo. I hope the Frankin set finds a good home!"

   His remarks have made me think that possibly the 14" bass drum wasn't a marching snare but the floor tom from a Toledo set. That would explain that the shell cymbal mount brackets may actually be two Toledo floor tom leg brackets. This explains the 2 filler bolts in the bottom of the bass drum shell which may have replaced the 3rd floor tom leg bracket.

INCLUDED WITH THIS DRUMSET: (All items are one of each unless otherwise specified;

  1. 13" x 14" Bass Drum - Condition: [VERY GOOD There's a few dark spots in the finish on the underside, ] It takes a regular 14" drum head. The heads installed are Remo clear Emperor on the batter with a Kevlar impact pad for definition and a Pearl World Series front head with a built in dampening ring. If you want a studio sound add one layer of 14" wide precut carpet underlay on the inside bottom extending from spur to spur.

  2. 5 1/2" x 10" John Grey "Broadway" Rack Tom - Condition: [VERY GOOD] One of the best I've seen for the vintage. 5 SLOT tension lugs. There's a slight de-lamination in the bottom edge (see photo) which has no bearing (no pun intended) on sound. The head of choice is a clear Emperor. Sounds very punchy. Just the right amount of sustain.

  3. 5" x 14" Wood Snare Drum - Condition:  [EXCELLENT] The batter sports a Remo Ambassador in great shape.  The resonator of choice is a Diplomat also in excellent condition. The internal muffler and strainer mechanisms are miraculously original and working as "bad as new".. Those who have experience with these parts know why the Ludwig P85 did so well. That said leave the muffler off and the strainer on.  Never mess with an old Japanese snare mechanism once you get a sound you like. If you do you will strip it. It's rare to find one that hasn't been swapped out. One of the snare strands is missing but the burr has been removed. See photo.
  4. Bass Drum mount Cymbal Holder - Condition:[EXCELLENT] The bottom L rod is a vintage knurled Ludwig. The rest is Gibraltar or Westbury and new circa 1996. There's a bracket on both sides of the bass.

  5. Two Pearl SP30 Bass Drum Spurs (Mounted Upside down)- Condition: [EXCELLENT] Amazing spurs! One of the Wing bolts has been swapped out for a key bolt. See photo. Same functionality. Once you set it you forget it so no big deal or you could replace the wing bolt.

  6. Two Pearl TH 98S Tom Arms - Condition: [NEAR MINT] These are the SHORT arms and at maximum height in the photos. If you want more height you could extend them or buy the longer versions.  As stated above this set was built for a display. I used it a couple times to jam with my mother on her organ and piano which was very cool.

  7. TWO Pearl BT2  Tom Mounting Brackets (Mounted)- Condition: [NEAR MINT]

  8. One Pearl BB2 Bass Drum receiving bracket (Mounted) Condition: [NEAR MINT]

  9. Two SX 2 Stop Locks Condition: [NEAR MINT]

  10. Six HL14T 3 Piece Hi Tension Lugs Assemblies (Mounted) Condition: [NEAR MINT]

  11. Accessories: One Vintage 1980's USA Camco Customized Bass drum beater. - Condition: [VERY GOOD] this beater has been shortened and not useful for a regular size bass drum. It will fit most pedals that have a low profile. It was used in a USA 80's Camco. It has been modified with weight to compensate for the short throw required for a 14" bass drum. As an option you can elevate the bass drum and use a regular beater but this is a lot more fun!
