These are I believe Victorian English Oak , measure 28" tall griffins, both were hand carved painstakingly by the master wood carvers in the era. Oak is one of the hardest luxury timber and not easy to carve.

Ebonizing is quite extensive long process. You should google it. I read and amazed about the process. Unfortunately there are so much loss on the ebonized finishing. However it give unique rustic look. There are minor damages here and there to the wood but I believe they can be easly filled with wood filler to shape up a bit if desired. I wouldnt do any touch up.  

They would make a stunning piece of chair , may be a piano bench, pedestal or whatever you wish to create. They look great just as display piece on a marble display stand by alone.
