This print by Italian artist Nani Tedeschi is entitled, simply, "Cortese." Franco Cortese, depicted in the print, was an Italian race driver who started in nearly two dozen Mille Miglia races. Cortese drove for Ferrari from 1947 to 1951, and drove the first race car Ferrari ever built—the 125S—to its first victory in 1947.
Cortese had a long, 32-year racing career outside Ferrari, as well, driving for Italia, Alfa Romeo, Bugatti and Maserati, and winning the Targa Florio in 1951 with Frazer-Nash.
Print is from the book, Ferrari e dintorni (Ferrari and Surroundings), beautifully rendered on a smooth, satiny stock, perfect for framing. PLEASE NOTE: Any appearance of bowing is due to distortion from the camera—the print is perfectly straight and square.
Italian artist and illustrator, Nani Tedeschi, began his professional life as a physician, and a spare-time artist. But having his work included in several national exhibitions in the late 1960s and early 1970s convinced him to hang up his stethoscope and inhabit full-time a world filled with pen, paints, and paper. Later, he would add sculpture, ceramics, and glass working to his artistic repertoire. Tedeschi has held solo exhibitions around the world—including in Vienna, Hamburg, New York, Tokyo, Sao Paolo—and of course all over Italy.
Tedeschi's fascination with Ferrari began in 1985, and the book, Ferrari e dintorni was published in 1988 by Cassa di Risparmio di Modena.
