With the Night Mail - By Rudyard Kipling.  Gift inscription on Half-Title page, presumably from John Barry Ryan, co-originator and self-installed Commodore of the United States Aeronautical Reserve (USAR) to Rear Admiral John Hubbard, Commander of U.S. Naval Asiatic Fleet.  The date and place shown (Boston, Sept 12, 1910) corresponds to the first Harvard-Boston aviation meet which began in early September of that year at the Harvard Aviation Field at Squantum Point in Quincy.  One of the few speculative and science fiction stories ever written by Kipling, concerning the importance of future air power, gifted by a very prominent aviation entrepreneur during the dawn of United States aviation.  Barry was instrumental in the planning, coordination, and financing of the first ever launching of an aircraft off of a ship, successfully flown a couple of months later by Eugene B. Ely on November 14, 1910, from the USS Birmingham near Norfolk, Virginia.  The combination of Kipling's semi-prescient story coupled with Barry's importance to the future of Naval Aviation make this a very unique and historical copy.  Hardcover, 1st Edition / 1st Printing, meeting all points for this publisher and year.  Published by Doubleday, Page & Company; New York: 1909.  Hardcover is in Good plus condition.  Rubbing and fraying to edges and corners, most notably to top and bottom spine.  Some foxing starting to occur on a couple of pages.  Front and back hinges beginning to crack.  Title Page and succeeding Illustration's page have a small tear near bottom gutter (1/2 inch).  Pages 7 and 8 have chipped fore edges.  Very faint owner's stamp to rear back corner.  All 4 color plates are intact; however, frontispiece and one behind page 58 have small, closed tears.  No Dustjacket.  Hardcover protected in a clear, mylar jacket.
