Signed first edition of this book from modern dance pioneer, Ted Shawn (1891-1972). Copiously illustrated with photographs, the book reads as a travel narrative of Shawn and his wife, Ruth St. Denis's trip to India, China, Japan, Burma, Java, Tibet, Ceylon, and North Africa. Shawn and his dancers from the Los Angeles Denishawn School, which he opened in 1915, performed in each country and also observed the traditional dances and techniques. Uncommon in the beautiful art deco jacket and signed. .
