Cutty Sark Wooden Tall China Clipper Ship Model 34" This high quality, highly detailed, expert level, Cutty Sark China Clipper tall ship model is brand new, fully assembled and ready for display (not a kit). This tall ship model was specially designed & built by the plank on bulkhead method (joining multiple small pieces of wood like Rosewood, Mahogany, Teak and other exotic tropical wood together on the hull). The front bowsprit and three large masts are connected securely using advanced rigging and lines painstakingly knotted and fastened by hand. Each yard has an attached hand-stitched rolled-up sail made of fine linen. Metal anchors and a wooden rudder are visible on the front and rear of the ship. On the deck, there are authentic hand-built lifeboats with ribs and planks, metal steering wheel, wood ladders and windlass, captain’s dining and sleeping cabin, and many other handcrafted ornaments. The clipper ship model is built exactly to scale as the original Cutty Sark was with many details. The task required skillful craftsmen hundreds of hours to accomplish. The Cutty Sark was built in Dumbarton, Scotland in 1869 and engaged in the China Tea Trade until 1873. She then embarked upon 20 years of passages between England and Australia. After 1895 she served under the Portuguese flag for 25 years.
She now belongs to the Tames Nautical Training College and she stands dry-docked at Greenwich, London. Badly damaged by fire on 21 May 2007 while undergoing conservation, the vessel is being restored and is expected to reopen in Spring 2011.
The model measures overall 34" long from bow to stern. It's a historical ship model that will be a conversation piece for any room or office and is sure to become a treasured family heirloom.
