The blade of this sword is made of Damascus folded steel. It is folded forged by 11 times and 2048 layers of patterns (Jihada) are formed on the surface of the blade. The high-performance blade has very good toughness and does not deform when bent at 90 degrees. The hardness is as high as 55. Cutting the wire does not hurt the blade. It can be used in battle or for display. We would highly recommend it as a gift. Anyone would be thrilled to receive a gorgeous sword as a gift! |

FOLDED STEEL | |
This means that the carbon steel is folded by 11 times to produce 2048 layers. The higher quantity of layers provides more unique and mystical hada patterns, which defines and displays the craftsman’s experience and knowledge of traditional metallurgy passed down from generation to generation. Only the utmost skilled bladesmiths (Toushyo) and polishers (Togi-shi) can bring out the beauty and life from the Shinsakuto live blade. During the forging process, all of the slags and impurities of the steel are burned off and folded forged to an uncompromised strength with an sharp cutting edge. The final carbon content is 1% and the hardness is an impressive HRC 55 on the Rockwell Scale. This high quality blade can easily cut through tatami straw mats or bamboo for Tameshigiri or Batto-do use. | |
ABOUT ELECTROPLATING | |
Plating (Electroplating) is the use of electrolytic principle in some metal surface on a thin layer of other metal or alloy plating process, is the use of electrolytic action made of metal or other materials adhered on the surface of the parts of a layer of metal film technique to prevent metal oxidation (rust), improve the wear resistance and electric conductivity, reflective resistance, corrosion resistance, copper sulfate, etc.) and improve aesthetics, and so on. |
