The costume of the Noh Doll keeps the strict standards like the actual performers
and is crafted by embodying the authenticity and beauty of the Noh play.
The selected collections on our website; “Hagoromo,” “Matsukaze,” “Okina” and “Shojo” are the icons of the Noh doll.
“Hagoromo”
One day, a fisherman who lived in the Miho-Matsubara region
in Suruga prefecture (currently Shizuoka prefecture) found a beautiful cloth on a branch of a pine tree.
When he is about to take it home for his family treasure,
a beautiful celestial maiden (Tennyo) appears and desperately asked:“I would like you to give it back to me as it is mine.”
Once he realizes the cloth is “the Hagoromo of heaven,”he asked her to show him the celestial maiden dance in return.
After she wears it, she dances expressing the beautiful scenery of the Miho-Matsubara or the shape of the moon, and she goes back to her home in heaven.
The doll “Hagoromo” embodies the dance the beautiful celestial maiden performed.
