16th / 17th Century Italian / Flemish Carved Boxwood Samson & Lion Sculptures

This is a fabulous pair of carved boxwood sculptures depicting the infant Samson rending the lions jaw, circa 16th / 17th century. The lions heads are rotated 180 degrees  while the figures gaze upward. - See a similar Roman depiction in the Diocesan Museum Parma.

CONDITION a repair to one paw & a shrinkage split to a forearm - as per images

The overall condition is as you would expect from an object of substantial age that has been displayed/handled/used, usually over the lifetimes of several owners.
