About the art form:

Shanghai Handicrafts is a rich traditional Chinese art that became available in U.S. markets, starting as a trade between the two countries opened in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Each piece is handwoven from reeds.

Carved wood, stitching and eyes bring character to these pieces.

High-quality examples of Shanghai Handicrafts work are extremely rare to find on the open market. These pieces are impossible to date accurately, but were made from 1930-1980 based on their tags and styles.

Some, like this one, still carry the red tag on the bottom.
