1972 Roberto Clemente 3000 Hit/Last Full PSA Ticket Pass National league Pittsburgh Pirates

 PSA/DNA Slabbed ticket #18684551

Condition GD. Scare item at Pirates

Ticket valid September 30,1972. At Forbes Field Roberto Clemente

The Bucs beat the New York Mets 5-0 on a Doc Ellis 2 Hitter. Pass from Clemente's 3000 hit, it is his last major league hit in regular season play!

He died just three months after this hit on December 31, in a plane crash at sea off the cost of San Juan, Puerto Rico while bringing aid to hurricane victims. Roberto quickly became a  national, world hero and Icon. He is the only voted into the HOF not having to wait five years as he was voting in the next year. Babe Ruth had to wait. Also,  a postage stamp was issued in his honor. His 3000 Hit is a huge high point during his playing days adding to his fame. This is HOFer Bill Mazeroski last ML game as he pitch hit for Clemente. Roberto Clemente played the next day the last game of the year but did not get a at bat he just played right field in the 9th inning so that the fans could give him a hand as he rested for the upcoming play-offs. Attendence of the game was extremly low considering Robert was trying for his 3000 hit. Only 13,117 in attendence. Ticket stubs for this game have sold in the $5,000 range. If I could pick any ticket to have over the past sixthy years it would be a toss up between this and Ted Williams last HR in his last at bat. You could look for ten years without finding a ticket or program from this game, as the few that exist are in private collections.  Any questions, please ask.

Great item. Rare.  Beautiful   HISTORIC TICKET FOR ADVANCED Clemente or ticket collector.

Tickets & passes from an event are scarce and not like cards mass produced in the millions. Collecting tickets is a persons connection to a event, something tangible after the event is a memory. Tickets are usually more valuable than a program which can be for a series of dates. Tickets are limited to seats allowed and paid attendance. A ticket with historical content and eye appeal is a valuable item. Tickets can be displayed with photographs, autographs and text. Many collectors get tickets signed. Collectors want tickets that represent a theme: a historical event, a team, a record breaking game, a players first or last game, All-Star or post season tickets. PSA/DNA is the top grading company for tickets. A PSA/DNA certified ticket adds value and protection to tickets. PSA/DNA researches and certifies tickets. Slabbed tickets are tamper proof and provide the most visually appealing form of safe long term storage. The  PSA staff is trained in methods of research and use many archives to help document events. Each PSA/DNA ticket has it's own number which can be verified by going to PSD/DNA  Keep an inventory of your collection to focus your collection and for insurance purposes. PSA publishes an on line monthly ticket price guide in Sports Market Report.  See my article on tickets click on the pencil icon near my user name or on my ME page.
