Pixies is an American alternative rock band that formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1986. The band's original lineup consisted of Black Francis (vocals, rhythm guitar), Joey Santiago (lead guitar), Kim Deal (bass, vocals), and David Lovering (drums).

Pixies' music is characterized by their loud-quiet dynamics, catchy melodies, and surreal, often dark lyrics. Their influence on alternative rock is significant, with many bands citing them as an inspiration.

The band released their debut album, "Surfer Rosa," in 1988, which received critical acclaim and is considered a classic of the alternative rock genre. They followed up with several more successful albums, including "Doolittle," "Bossanova," and "Trompe le Monde."

In 1993, Kim Deal left the band, and they disbanded shortly after. However, they reunited in 2004 and have since released several more albums, including "Indie Cindy" and "Beneath the Eyrie."

Pixies' impact on alternative rock and popular music is undeniable, and their unique sound and style continue to inspire new generations of musicians.
