Antique fire screen Arts and Crafts Movement Hammered Copper C1905 Firescreen, a truly unique fire creen and rare find.

This very good quality antique copper fire screen is a lovely example of British Arts and Crafts Movement metalwork. Dating from around 1900 to 1910, with central copper panel. The copper panel is set into a decorative wrought iron frame.

This is an interesting piece as it also reflects design elements of the Art Nouveau style. The copper has a rich, warm coloured age patina to the surface of the metal. This screen is likely to be from The Newton School of Metalwork in Cambridgeshire, which was in operation from around 1890 to 1940. It was founded by Harrold Hurrell and Eliza Nash as part of the Home Arts and Industries Association, which sought to revive hand craftsmanship as a reaction to increasing industrialisation and mass production in society.
