A musical fantasy for children. In the introduction the author states his 2 aims in writing this book. First to tell a fanciful and interesting story and secondly to illustrated the rudiments of music in an entertaining way. The book is illustrated by nine fanciful full-page pen & ink drawings by artist  Francis Gilbert Attwood (1856-1900), and numerous smaller drawings in the text. This oblong book is the true first edition, with the regular vertical rectangular copies being later printings. The First Edition is rather scarce and usually expensively priced.
