In Hinduism, the Sun God, also known as Surya or Aditya, is
considered the creator of the universe and the source of all life. He is the
supreme soul who brings light and warmth to the world.
The Sun God is important in Hinduism because:
He is the source of all life
He renders warmth and light to the entire world
He is one of the several trinities along with Agni and either
Vayu or Indra
He is the giver and sustainer of life
He is the giver of good health
Many Hindus start their day with Surya stuti, or offering
prayers to the Sun god. People engaged in agricultural practices worshipped the
Sun God because their crops depended on the sun for their sustenance and life.
The Vedas assert that the Sun (Surya) is the creator of the
material universe (Prakriti). The Matsya Purana says “Aarogyam
Bhashkaradichhet” (Sun is the giver of good health).
