"The Three-Cornered Hat by Manuel de Falla. Told by Robert Lawrence. Illustrated by Alexandre Serebriakoff. Authorised by The Ballet Russe. Random House, New York."

A wonderful depiction of this classic ballet by de Falla, one of a series of delightful Ballet Books published by Random House in 1940.

The illustrations are by Alexandre Serebriakoff (1907 - 1994), a Russian artist who when 17 years old was taken to Paris by his mother in 1924. His father had been imprisoned after the Russian Revolution of 1917, and died in prison. However, Alexandre pursued a successful career as an artist in France.

This is a beautifully produced children's book, with illustrated endpapers, short musical quotes, and illustrations that capture the spirit of the Ballet Russe production superbly. A delightful introduction for anyone going to see this classic ballet.
