The Taura Izumi Kiln, a collaborative project involving numerous artisans, is a full-scale anagama kiln established in 2020 within the grounds of the Yokosuka Artists' Village, "YOKOSUKA ART VALLEY HIRAKU." Using firewood sourced from sustainable forest thinnings in Yokosuka and red pines from Nagano, the temperature is carefully elevated to around 1,200-1,300 degrees Celsius over several days before firing the ceramics. The ash from the firewood naturally adheres to the pieces, providing an organic glaze. The unique marks left by the flames create an earthy character, a signature feature achievable only through anagama kilns. Notes If you apply too much force, it will break. Please be careful not to get injured by broken pieces.
