DON QUIXOTE 1885 SANCHO PANZA & DAPPLE CHILDRENS GLASS ABC PLATE Vintage Rare Antique EAPG- Early American Pressed Glass

Description -  Wonderful circa 1885 children's glass ABC plates. Features a man with a donkey in the center of the plate, the title Sancho Panza & Dapple underneath. Sancho Panza is a character from the book Don Quixote. The letters of the alphabet circle the rim of the plate.

Gillinder and Sons (Greensburg, Pennsylvania) produced this plate and several other ABC plates as part of a series called "Frolic" ( Lechler book "Toy Glass" ). The mold work and detail in this plate is outstanding. Size: 6" diameter

Condition - Pre-owned antique conditon (1885) - Underneath rim of the base ring has tiny nicks and several large chips and flakes (frittering) on the bottom ring. I believe this is probably original to production, and is due to how those plates were manufactured (see pictures). The production date for this plate is c. 1885. Also, straw marks and bubbles which is common for this type of glass.
