You are looking at a Mattel "Needle Beetle" designed by an 8 year old patient at a hospital.

This is a stress, squeezable beetle in typical colors of red and black.

According to the paperwork with the Beetle, "Squeeze the BKFK Needle Beetle to help ease the pain associated with getting needles."

Brandon goes on to say:

At age 8 Brandon, the inventor, wanted to help. "I learned that when kids tense up their arm it hurts more because the needle has to go through muscle. I also learned that this can cause the veins to 'roll' which can cause the person sticking them to miss. I learned that distracting the patients attention helps to relieve anxiety and pain. These were the problems I set out to solve with my Needle Beetle."
