You are buying a old French Type 1951 Mle lizard camouflage poncho rain coat convertible into field/campaign tent or shelter half. Used by the Foreign Legion during the Indochina/Algeria War in the 1950s and 1960s. On one of the two sides is the beautiful lizard camouflage with the clay brown and green dominating on a beige background.

The one triangular piece of a zeltbahn style poncho made from a heavy, windproof canvas style fabric. These are rain coats a bygone era, with so many features and a high complexity, something that was surely time-consuming to manufacture and won't likely find today in the era of disposable synthetic garments and automated manufacturing.

The poncho/shelter half is in overall good used condition with obvious signs of field use. No damage that I have been able to find. The colours appear strong and original. It has some stitches and tears. Metal buttons with the marking "EQUIPEMENTS MILITAIRES". Manufactured by Abdon Sports in Toulouse, France. The dimensions are as follows:

  • lenght - approx. 238 cm (93.70" in.)
  • wide - approx. 200 cm (78.74" in.)
  • weight - 840 gr (1.8 lb.)
