Welcome to Paradise Bound!
Kawabata Gyokusetsu was the son of the legendary Kawabata Gyokusho, who was an official painter to the Imperial Household. Gyokusetsu took over his father's school and quietly taught the ancient skills that he inherited from his father. He lived in Tokyo. Signed "Gyokusetsu" and sealed "Kawabata Gyokusetsu".

Every "kakejiku" (hanging scroll) that we have contains ancient symbolism that is auspicious for the home in which it hangs. Here, mountains are immortality / bare trees are a Zen reminder that life is transient and fleeting / pines are longevity, endurance and steadfastness / birds represent the yang, and things open, bright, solar and communicative / and calm water is a Zen reflection of one's inner calm.

This scroll is far, far more impressive in person. Photography can not do it justice.

Size: 24" x 83"

All original scrolls come with a sealed document of authenticity.
